Amazing mic for acoustic instruments at a very reasonable price. The mic itself comes in a very nice wooden box. The shipping was spot on. I am incredibly happy with this purchase.

MXL V67GS Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone, Green with Gold Grill best buy

Product Description

The MXL V67GS combines Class-A FET circuitry and a transformer /coupled output for an open and pure sound. The V67GS offers a smooth rising presence peak which is preferred for vocals when there is a heavy low-end in the mix. The high-pass roll-off switch and additional -6dB pad provide the ultimate improvement to the classic version.

  • Transformer-balanced output which offers a smooth, warm tone
  • 1.26" large diaphragm condenser with 6 micron gold sputtered diaphragm
  • High-pass filter that offers a new tonality by removing unwanted low-end frequencies
  • -6dB attenuation pad to easily adjust the microphone to work with loud sound sources

MXL V67Q Stereo Condenser Microphone best buy

Product Description

MXL is proud to announce the newest addition to the V67 series, the V67Q Stereo microphone. This mic is the perfect addition to the home recording or studio environment. A fixed 90 degree XY pattern delivers a spacious stereo image, but also minimizes loss when translating to mono. The width can be adjusted later with panning if desired, as the left and right signals are delivered on separate balanced XLR connectors. The open tonality of the microphone compliments close micing by capturing the natural reverb of a room, provides an easy solution for drum overheads, and fits nicely under the lid of a grand piano. Follow the link above to hear a sample of the V67Q on guitar as well as other microphone samples.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good microphone for live stereo recording, March 7, 2009

I bought this microphone to record piano music, chamber music and choral concerts. This is a serious professional microphone at a very reasonable price. It is stereo, and requires phantom power, which right away limits the devices you record on. You basically have to use pro equipment. It comes with a 5 pin stereo XLR connector cable which is only 10 feet long, You can get longer 5 pin stereo XLR connectors from musiciansfriend, Amazon or B and H photo/video. I use a Marantz CDR-300 recorder, but you could also use a marantz 310, 661 or any digital multi-track recorder or pro-tool/mac/digidesign interface box setup. (just make sure the interface box has two XLR inputs). The advantage to using a stereo mike is that it only requires one stand and one cable, and this mike sounds fantastic. Inside, it is really two small diameter condenser capsules oriented 90 deg to each other. You do have to back up from whatever you are recording. Watch your levels when you are recording. It records... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING STEREO MICROPHONE, February 22, 2012

I was really skeptical about this mic but for the price I had to give it a try. It arrived in brand new condition and right on time.

It is very pretty, the green and gold colors always attract attention from females that visit our studio.

WHAT'S IT SOUND LIKE?
Looks are somewhat important but what really matters is the sound, what does it sound like? This mic sounds amazing. I hooked it into two channels of a Grace m801 mic preamp. At over $500/preamp the Grace is definitely high-end equipment. I listened to the output of the mic preamp using a set of Audio Technica M-50 headphones.

The sound from this mic is very 3D. The mic creates this dimensional space that will have you turning your head around to see where noises are coming from.

On acoustic guitar it provides an amazing depth, the better the instrument, the better the sound, the mic does an extraordinary job picking it up. We use it for recording exclusively and it is living on a... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Good quality, single-point stereo microphone, May 1, 2012

I purchased this MXL V67Q stereo microphone to record ambient sound for a film project I'm working on. It was a bit of a risk, as the MXL V67Q is designed to be used in a studio environment, and my film takes place in the Florida outdoors. I was able to modify my Rode blimp to accept the V67Q without much trouble, and mount the assembly on a sturdy tripod stand. I ran the xlr cable into a Soundcraft Notepad mixer and then into a Zoom H1 to record the sounds. The results were quite good, as the microphone has very little self-noise, and I made wonderful recordings of birds, insects, and other natural sounds. The V67Q did prove sensitive to humidity when I would use it outside of the blimp, but the microphone was fine after being returned to an air-conditioned environment for a few hours.

This is also a very good vocal microphone. I was testing different microphones on my wife's voice for a voice-over project, trying to find if she sounded better on the Rode NT-1A or... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars MXL R144: Incredible bang for the buck., February 15, 2011

This review is from: MXL R144 Ribbon Microphone (Electronics)
Sound is subjective, so you may disagree BUT.... This is the best sounding mic I have used that costs under $100. It's got an incredibly natural, vintage sound that does wonders for my terrible singing voice and acoustic guitars. I have mics 10x as expensive as this one, yet I still find myself reaching for it quite often.

I am not confident in the build quality. So I'm particularly careful with these mics (I own two). Knowing they are ribbons and rather cheap is somewhat unnerving. Knowing I can replace one for $88 is a plus though. It's because of the quality that I gave the mic 4 stars, not 5.

One other downside to this mic (and most ribbons) is you need lots of gain to get it up to the level that most mics operate at. While my SM57 is at 3-4 gain-wise, the R144 is up around 9. Also, do yourself a big favor and get a pop filter with it.

This is not an AKG, Neumann, Rode, insert brand name here, so if you don't expect it to be you won't be... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Good mic, February 8, 2012
By
ldolamore (North Carolina mountains) - See all my reviews
This review is from: MXL R144 Ribbon Microphone (Electronics)
I received the R144 as a gift, although it was on my wish list so I did want it. I have been slowly acquiring gear for my modest home "studio" plus gradually learning to be a "recording engineer". I'm not a complete newbie at this but also not an expert. However, I have been able to record songs with good quality so I've apparently learned some things along the way.

Prior to receiving the R144 I owned/used these microphones, choosing one or the other based on need or simply experimentation: Shure SM57, Shure SM58, MXL 603, AT3035. I had never used a ribbon mic but became aware of them through various Internet forums and musical web stores. The R144 receives generally good reviews and the price is low enough, so it went onto my "things to get" list.

I was concerned that the R144 would require a pre-amp with good gain, which I read is typical for ribbon mics. I hoped my ART TubePAC would suffice. In fact, the TubePAC provided plenty of gain for the R144 so I... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value, December 21, 2011
This review is from: MXL R144 Ribbon Microphone (Electronics)
This mic sounds silky smooth with vocals and acoustic guitar. I have a fairly large assortment of microphones for my home studio. Several large condenser, 2 small condensers and the usual suspects including Shure SM 57's and SM 58's. For the money this mic can't be beat. Unless you plan to spend upwards of a $1,000, this is 1 fine ribbon mic.
